A Virtual Tour of Spring Valley Roses Nursery and Gardens:
This Old House

Our house was built in 1901 by Norwegian immigrants. They cleared the land for farming, and used the lumber from the trees they cut down to build their barns and their house. The house was built for $500, and includes four bedrooms, hardwood floors throughout and two beautiful stained-glass windows.

The grandsons of the people who built this house gave us this photo. It shows probably everyone in Gilman Township at the house to celebrate Settende Mai or Norwegian Independence Day on May 17, 1904. Notice the band!

It's nice to have a sense of history about your farm.
