A Virtual Tour of Spring Valley Roses Nursery and Gardens:
Scene 2
In the garden is an old building foundation has been filled with
roses. The stone and block walls provide support for climbers and
shelters the plants from winds.
An old post from the building gives support to this climbing 'John
Cabot' rose. Notice the bird house attached to the post -- this
is specifically for wrens. These fiesty little birds can raise up
to three clutches of babies in one summer, which means they spend
a great deal of time hunting for food for the growing babies. The
parents are always bringing back little green worms -- the kind
that like to devour rose leaves. Wrens can put a real dent in the
insect population, and they grace our gardens with their wonderful
songs from early spring until August.
