This is a great garden shrub for flowers and fruit. In the
spring it has tons of fragrant white flowers that are followed
by clusters of large, edible dark-blue to black berries that
stays on the plant through winter. This shrub has upright
growth from 3 to 5-feet tall. But, it's best know for its
foliage, which turns from a glossy dark green in the summer
to reds and purples in the fall.
Healthy and hardy. Does well in full sun to part shade and
is tolerant of most soil types. Self pollinating.

Aronias: Aronia, or Chokeberry, as it is commonly
known, is native to North America. It is most often grown
for its ornamental qualities: beautiful flowers in spring,
dark-green foliage all summer, incredible fall foliage color
(brilliant red) and clusters of dark blue to black fruits.
The fruit stays on the plant all winter until it is consumed
by birds -- often in the spring by early Robins and other
fruit-eating birds. Not bothered by insects or disease, Aronia
is a very ornamental and easy plant to grow.
Does best in at least a half day of full sun in average garden
soil, but can tolerate partial sun and wet soils. Space 3-feet
apart. Has upright growth, which rarely needs pruning. If
you do prune, do the pruning in late winter to maintain desired
shape and size.
What's a "bareroot" plant?
 "Bareroot"
is a term that describes how a plant is shipped to you. A
bareroot plant is not in a pot, and is usually dormant (not
actively growing). See the photo to the right that shows what
a bareroot rose looks like. The bareroot plants that we ship
to you were harvested in the fall and placed in cold storage
over the winter to keep them dormant. In the spring, we ship
the bareroot plants to our customers, from early April through
mid May.
Bareroot plants are easy to grow. We include planting instructions
with your order. When you receive your plant, take it out
of the packing material and place it in a bucket of water
so that the roots are completely covered. Let the roots soak
for 4 to 24 hours, then plant it in your garden. Full planting
